Hollywood decided that it would honour the little engine that could and ignore box office number. How rebellious! It was about paying your dues, wasn't it? With Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock winning their respective category, less for their actual role than for their career and being so darn likable? (Admit it, you teared up during Bullock's speech too!) I'm just pleasantly surprised that Up In The Air went home empty handed, like it should. My favoured horse, The White Ribbon, is not the kind of picture the Academy would usually go for, so it's not a big surprise that it lost out. Still, I was a bit disappointed because the film could've used some free advertisement.

If you thought Up in the Air deserved to go home empty-handed you must not have seen Precious!
The White Ribbon actually won the Best Foreign Film award at the Swedish "Oscars" earlier this year.
And I do admit, I actually did tear up at Bullock's speech. Best moment of the night, sniffle.
Why am I not surprised it won with the Swedes? It's so Bergman-esque! If only the Academy has more discriminating taste and/or is snobbier. Le sigh.
That's why I (correctly!) predicted The Secret In Their Eyes. I had read that it was more of an Academy-friendly film (it's supposed to be really good though), while The White Ribbon and A Prophet just don't really fit the bill for the Oscars.
I don't think they're hurting though. The White Ribbon won Best Film at the European Film Awards, and A Prophet won something like 9 Cesar awards.
Gosh darn you for reading and actually voting accordingly! I read the same and ignored it just in case they felt like loving the Frenchie - they voted for that Paris song (what the heck?)! I believe that had I seen all of the films, I would've been better at predicting this category. All my predictions are based on what I've seen, except for those that are based on what I've read about and I made almost all my predicting errors there. I mean, when I saw that they gave the original screenplay to The Hurt Locker, I knew it'd win best pic, but it was too late to change. The Hurt Locker's best pic win is really odd though, because it's not really a 'heart' picture, which the Academy usually goes for?
